100 Things About Me
- I'm a Leo.
- I was born in the year of the Tiger.
- My initials are KAT.
- I'm a dog person.
- I'm happily married, more happy than I thought would be possible.
- If my condo was on fire, and I only have time to grab three things, I would be too hysterical to think clearly enough to actually grab three things.
- I cook dinner at least 5 nights a week.
- I own more than 30 cookbooks.
- I try a new recipe every week.
- Sometimes I'm a vegan, sometimes I'm a vegetarian. Sometimes I eat fish.
- I have Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
- Having RA has made me more compassionate.
- I'm still not compassionate enough.
- I have always felt loved by my family.
- I look half like my mom and half like my dad.
- I am starting to age, and I can identify the wrinkles. The ones on my forehead are from my father’s genes. The ones around my mouth are from my mother’s side.
- My middle brother is a Marine.
- My youngest brother is probably hacking into your computer right now.
- My father started a company the year I was born. He still owns and runs the company. It is my third sibling.
- I write business proposals, presentations and press releases for a marketing company.
- I work from home during naptimes, and any other free moment.
- It is hard to shift gears from mothering to writing. Occasionally, I find myself trying to rhyme in a press release, like a lullaby. Press releases should not lull the reader to sleep, no matter how much I want my son to take a nap.
- I graduated from college with high honors.
- I picked the University I attended solely because my best-friend was going there.
- I love yoga, but I don't do it as often as I should.
- I grind my teeth at night when I am stressed.
- I was once so stressed that one of my jaw muscles started to spasm and I couldn't open my mouth fully for over a month.
- I broke my little toe by tripping over a book bag. I was in the middle of a dinner party so I ignored it for the rest of the evening.
- I love setting the table for a dinner party.
- I have a book called "The Art of Napkin Folding". And I use it.
- We used to live in Seattle. We miss the mountains, but we're both glad to be back around family.
- I try never to wear make-up that is tested on animals.
- I am half Polish and half Albanian. I look like a white girl from the suburbs.
- I live in a neighborhood that is only 3% white.
- I hear gun shots in my neighborhood.
- I love my neighborhood, but I am not sure we will stay here due to the violence.
- I am agnostic.
- I do not know how I will answer my son when he asks about God.
- I do not believe in fate, destiny, or an all-controlling deity. If there is a God, then I believe he gave us free-will and will judge us for our actions later.
- I wish I believed in an all-controlling deity, because that would make life less random.
- I was raised Catholic.
- I had a Catholic wedding because I knew it would make my mother happy.
- I had my son baptized because it was important to my mom.
- I love hearing my dad laugh.
- I read the Wall Street Journal and listen to NPR.
- I have a fantastic credit rating.
- I believe that pot should be decriminalized.
- I believe that our prison system is cruel and unusual due to over-crowding, drug-use, rape and lack of post-sentence job training.
- I love talking to my husband and my dad about politics.
- I am the first person in my mother's family to go to college.
- I paint.
- I draw.
- I once made a crown out of twigs and leaves. It was my favorite art project, but it attracted spiders so I couldn't keep it. I have lost all photos of it.
- I love libraries.
- I love to read.
- I can read a paperback in just a couple hours.
- I read a ton of parenting books.
- I welcome parenting advice, even from strangers.
- Being parents has brought my husband and me even closer together.
- My birthstone is a peridot. It's an unattractive lime green stone, but supposedly it protects the wearer from pirates. I love it for that.
- My husband asked me to marry him on Huckleberry Mountain in the Northwest. I said yes and then it started to hail. It was the perfect trip.
- I love buying gifts, wrapping gifts and giving gifts. I love trying to find something that will surprise and delight another person.
- I love my birthday. I start a countdown two months beforehand to make sure my husband remembers.
- I have a terrible smile in photos.
- I paint my toenails in the summer.
- I tan easily.
- I rarely get sick.
- I gave birth without using any drugs.
- My body loved being pregnant.
- I had an easy labor and delivery ("easy" being a relative word).
- I'm not very brave.
- I freeze up when I panic.
- If I'm scared, I get really quiet.
- If I were an animal, I would be prey.
- I always have a savings account, and it always has enough money for emergencies.
- My husband desperately wanted a manual car. In a grand romantic gesture, I learned stick shift in hilly Seattle.
- My car is named Klaus.
- I like being a girl who drives a manual transmission car.
- I don't watch sports, unless it's the Olympics or the World Cup.
- I hate participating in team activities.
- I rarely drink, but when I do, I like piña coladas or Manhattans.

- I didn't change my name when I got married.

- My favorite part of my body is my belly button.
- My closet is color coordinated.
- My CDs are alphabetical.
- Left alone on a deserted island, I would find something to organize.
- I have no sense of rhythm.
- I can't snap.
- I can't curl my tongue.
- I can’t wink with my left eye. I can barely wink with my right eye.
- I run into walls, doors, couches, and other large, obvious objects.
- I always mix my metaphors, or get them completely incorrect. This morning I said, "It's a mute point" which my husband pointed out was a very quiet point, rather than a moot point.
- My second toe is longer than my big toe. My aunt told me that it meant I was lucky. I believe that.
- My dream is to see a blue whale.
- My favorite poem, one that I think summarizes everything important in life, is Raymond Carver’s "Last Fragment".
